AB&I supports 2018 Oakland Creek to Bay Clean & Green Initiative

September 17, 2018

AB&I is pleased to announce they will be supporting the 2018 Oakland Creek to Bay Clean and Green Initiative. AB&I has played an active role in community clean-up projects. Just last year volunteer team members cleaned up the Elmhurst Creek that runs behind the foundry and successfully removed hundreds of pounds of debris that was illegally dumped into the creek. AB&I believes in their corporate culture which empowers each team member to be good stewards to the community. Team members work to improve the blight of our great city Oakland, California.

"It' this kind of integrity and respect for our company and community that makes AB&I a great place to work." said Michael Lowe, General Manager of AB&I Foundry. "We are part of the fabric of this great community of Oakland, and we are proud not only in spearheading our own initiatives, but to also work with the city on their projects all in a concerted effort to create a better community."

The Oakland Creek to Bay Day Volunteers Clean and Green Oakland is an initiative where thousand Oaklanders are expected to participate in the largest volunteer day in the world. The 23rd Annual Oakland Creek to Bay Day is part of California and International Coastal Cleanup Day. In 2017, more than 1,700 volunteers removed over 162 cubic yards of trash and cleared over 253 cubic yards of invasive plants from creeks, parks, shorelines and streets. Keeping trash out of streets and waterways also helps prevent flooding during rain storms by allowing storm water to flow through unobstructed storm drains. Data collection has led to a better understanding of environmental problems with trash and to reduced packaging and harmful products at a consumer, producer, and regulator level. Eighty percent of all trash found in the oceans originates on land, and nearly ninety percent of that trash is plastic. These plastics accumulate and create environments that are harmful to marine life and human health.

AB&I is proud to be a part of this worthwhile initiative to improve the Oakland community.
